Course Description:
This course introduces web development tools and design concepts for web site creation. It utilizes learning objects developed by NETg. Their unique Skill Builder instruction uses text, questioning, practice, quizzes and multiple study paths to create a learning environment that enhances comprehension. Pre-assessment testing in the beginning of each unit allows each student to generate a personalized study path based on the knowledge and skills demonstrated. Mastery Modules at the end of each unit allow students to verify comprehension of key skills and guides students back to any content that warrants further study. Topics include the crreation of web sites and applets using web development software. Upon completion, students should be able to create entire web sites and supporting applets. Class prepares students for MS FrontPage 2000 Developer (BrainBench Professional Certification) and combines with CSC160 (Intro to Internet Programming) in preparation for Certified Internet Webmaster - Designer certification exam. Computer Requirements:
Students must have access to the following computer equipment:
  1. Independent Internet access
  2. Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator (version 4.0 or better)
  3. E-mail account
  4. 50 MB free hard drive space (returned at completion of class)
  5. Microsoft FrontPage 2000
  6. Microsoft Image Composer 1.5
Policies and Procedures:
  1. This class is taught on-line with assignments and projects submitted via e-mail or FTP upload. Instructor comments and acceptability and grade of each assignment will also be transmitted to the student via e-mail.
  2. All E-mail sent to your instructor regarding this class should have a subject that adapts to the following scheme:

  3. A class discussion board and ListServ will be maintained by the instructor and students will submit to it as required by the class syllabus
  4. Assignments should be completed in order and submitted by the due date. Late submission without prior approval will result in point deductions.
  5. The instructor will be available on-line for interactive instruction and question and answer sessions. Times for these sessions will be set after final registration. The applicable URL and instructions for using it will be supplied at the orientation meeting.
  6. Plagiarism involves the use of someone else's words, works, writings, thoughts, and ideas without giving credit to the author. It is understood that material submitted for evaluation in the class will be that of the student's work and will be original work. The student will not receive credit for the work that is not his/her own.
  7. Grading and Evaluation Criteria:

Assignments, quizzes, exams, projects and discussion questions have been assigned individual point values as discussed below in the "Tentative Schedule". There are a total of 500 points available. Grades are assigned on the basis of points earned by the student as follows:

Mastery Module scores are the highest score achieved on the Pre-assessment or Mastery Assessment testing achieved by the student.

Points recorded for unit tests will be a percentage of 10 (10 points maximum for each test)..

Due dates are last acceptable date to submit the assignment. Early submissions are welcome.

Quizzes are found throughout the Virtual Classroom. Discussion topics, mini-projects, etc. will be posted by your instructor.
